The
club has initiated matching grant Rs.3.5 crore project to The Rotary Foundation
for a Rs.3 crore Rotary BBS Blood Resource Centre in Chandigarh, which has received
nod from TRF.
Another matching grant project is in pipeline for providing a Rotary
Mobile Dental Van to the city administration.
The Club has immunised more than 30,000 children against Hepatitis-B
in 3 months period October - December 2000
Has organised two Rotary Community Corps in a slum on the outskirts
of the city. One of them is an all-women RCC for whom various vocational workshops
are being held.
Many new vocational training programmes have been introduced at
the Rotary Vocational Training Centre.
More than 11,000 and 14,000 children were immunised respectively
at the two polio immunisation days observed in the country. In the second
National Immunisation Day, an 11-member team of Rotarians and their spouses from
Wisconsin, USA joined at the polio booths.
Organising a massive artificial limbs project for the needy in collaboration
with the UK Rotarians under the Jaipur Limbs Project.

the Joint Intercity to Welcome the RI President.

Our member, Rtn. Kawal Bedi, the first women from D-3080 takes
over as District Governor.
Constructed Rotary Peace monument in collaboration with State
Bank of India at a cost of Rs.5 Lakh at Sukhna Lake. RI President Jonathan B. Majiyagbe
visited Chandigarh and unveiled the monument at a glittering function at the lake
on 12th December 2003 and handed over the same to HE Governor of Panjab Justice
O.P. Verma.

Hosted the Intercity of Welcome to Rotary International President Glenn E. Estess
on 30th November, 2004.
16 heart surgeries carried out under the Centennial project i.e. Rotary Heartline
without any matching grant from Rotary Foundation and are done free of cost.
For the first time a pace maker was imported for 2 month old child within 7 days
and the life was saved by implanting the same in the child. 8 pace makers implanted
on underprivileged. Keeping in the spirit of continuity US$2500.00 were collected
and sent to Rotary Heartbeat International, USA to get 30 pace makers in the next
Rotary year.
Rotary & Blood Bank Society Resource Centre, a Rs. 4 crore project was inaugurated
on 29th November, 2004 by Rotary International President Glenn E. Estess and union
health minister Govt. of India Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss.
The Blood Component-Processing Unit was inaugurated on 2nd April, 2005 by Mr. P.
K. Hota, Secretary Health, Govt. of India. From October 2004 to June 2005 in 60
camps approximately 4200 units were collected to provide safe blood to the needy.
A week long blood donation camp was inaugurated by Mr. Kapil Dev, cricketer on 21.6.2005.
Rupees five lacs was collected to wards Tsunami Relief Fund which was pooled in
with the District Tsunami Relief Fund and fisherman's boats were purchased and given
to effected peoples. Funds have also been organized this year for donation of 10
dental chairs, a dental x-ray machine and other accessories at Dental School, Punjab
University Chandigarh.
At Rotary Balwadi School at Maloya, midday meal was provided and a vocational training
course started. In addition books & stationary, blankets were also given free to
the school students at Bapu Dham. A new vocational training course in nutrition,
fruit & vegetable preservation started. Scholarships to outstanding students of
each class from 5th to 10th were given. In addition to Soup 'n' Sandwich, Eat 'n”
Serve projects of the Club and Rotary Spouse Day, Past President's Day, family of
Rotarians participated in the first time organized Janamashtami, Gurupurab & Baisakhi
celebrations.
For the first time a joint meeting of all the Rotary Clubs at Chandigarh, Mohali
and Panchkula (7 in number) was organized and hosted by our Club.
Two new Rotaract Clubs were sponsored. The Centennial Year was celebrated on 23.3.2005
at Sukhna Lake by organizing a musical recital in candlelight.
More than US$20,000 had been our contribution towards the Rotary Foundation.RVTC
building was got repaired and painted.
Mr. H. K. Dua, Editor-in-Chief, The Tribune Group was inducted as Honorary Rotarian
of our Club.
2005-2006

The Club lost Pres. Col. A.B. Singh in office and Rtn. Charanjit Singh was handed
over the charge. The Club initiated a major Matching Grant Project for conducting
free cardiac surgery on 20 children from Pakistan in partnership with D3080, 3010,
3270 (Pakistan) and 7250 (USA). The USD 30,500 grant was approved by TRF.
Another Matching Grant project with UK Rotarians for USD 22,000 got approved from
TRF for supply of 10 dental chairs to Institute of Dental Studies, Panjab University,
Chandigarh. Instituted major project in association with MC for renovation, beautification,
upgradation and daily maintenance of Cremation Ground.Landscaping of area around
Rotary Peace Monument at Sukhna Lake initiated. Entered into agreement with Fortis
Hospital for heart surgeries on Children below 1 year under Rotary Heartline Project.
23 Heart Surgeries conducted under Heartline Project incl. 4 Children from Pakistan
and 1 from Afganistan.
600 children in Anganwadis provided with uniforms, books & stationary, besides repairs
& renovation of buildings.
This year the Club engaged Rotaract Club in every project and participated in their
activities. Club hosted District Team Training Seminar on 14th May 2006. Hosted
District RYLA on 25-28 May 2006.Organised Spice Rotary Heartline Concert in association
with Rotaract Club and raised funds for heart surgeries. Twin City agreement signed
with Rotary Club Gold Coast Lake Success, NY, USA. Rotary Balwari in Maloya repaired.
Books & Stationary worth Rs. 45,000 donated to needy children in Govt. School and
Bal Bahar School, Bapu Dham, thanks to Rakesh Gupta Memorial Charitable Trust.
Vandana Maini Club’s candidate got selected as GSE member for USA. Inter Continental
Medicare Teams went to Kalahandi in Orrisa, and Lesotho, in Africa. The Club received
Best Community Service in District Running Trophy for its Heartline Project. The
Club was adjudged most Outstanding Club in the District, Outstanding Club President
& Club Secretary, Best Club Bulletin and Club received 14 Club Awards in all and
three individual Rotarians were recognized.
Rtn. PP Praveen Chander Goyal adjudged the Best Rotarian of the District for 2005-06.

Celebrations – 2500th
Meeting Rotary Club of Chandigarh celebrated its 2500th Meeting
on 30th Oct 2006.
Golden Jubilee Celebrations
Rotary Club of Chandigarh made its momentous entry into 50th years of service to
society on 14th May 2008. Rotary International President (Elect) Wilf Wilkinson
alongwith his lady wife, Mrs Joan was invited as the chief guest for the occasion.
Rotary International President’s Visit During his visit to Chandigarh, Rotary International
President William B.Boyd reviewed the ongoing projects at Rotary Vocational Training
Centre & Blood Resource Centre, Chandigarh. Seminar On 18th March 2007, Rotary Club
of Chandigarh hosted District Team Training Seminar.
Rotary Heartline Project
Under its prestigious Rotary Heartline Project, 31 heart surgeries were conducted.
A fund reasing concert at Leisure Valley on 13th Oct 2006.

Implanted 03 Pace Makers for needy and under privileged people.
Rotary Peace Monument
Beautification and land scaping of Peace Monument at Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh. Anganwadis.
As part of its annual exercise, added/adopted two more Anganwadis – one each at
Dhanas & Maloya. Besides this, it also introduced a Shed at Maloya. Rs 31,000/-
were also spent on repair and maintenance of Balwadis.
Blood Donation Camps
86 Blood Donation Camps at different location thereby collecting 9399 units, in
all. Blood Van Rotary Club of Chandigarh gifted a Blood Van to Rotary & Blood Bank
Society Resource Centre during the year 2006-07.
Cremation Ground
For day – to – day maintenance, Rotary Club of Chandigarh provided two Sweepers
& two gardeners on full time basis to Cremation Ground as these resources were too
scarce to look after it. The services of these personnel will be utilized in cleaning,
landscaping and beautifying the areas within and around Cremation Ground. Rotary
Inter-continental Medicare. As part of its services to interiors and remote areas
in the country, a Medicare Team led by PRIP Raja Saboo and Ann Usha Saboo visited
Baripara, Orissa and rendered required services to the locals from 6th March to
12th March 2007.
Provision of Medicines
Mr Ajay Kumar Pandey who is suffering from kidney problem was provided medicines
worth Rs.5500/- every month by Rotary Club of Chandigarh through its local resources.
Interact Club
A new Interact Club in the shape of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector
10, Chandigarh was installed during the year 2006-07.
Student Exchange Programme
Ms Lorena + 1 student from Brazil was admitted in Ajit Karam Singh International
Public School as part of Exchange Student Programme during the year by Rotary Club
of Chandigarh.
Assistance
Mattresses worth Rs.34000/- were provided to the physically challenged inmates of
Rehabilitation Centre Saket during the year 2006-07.
Organisation opf Dental Camp
On 15th Dec 2006, a Dental Camp was organized at Bal Bahaar School, Bapu Dham Colony,
whereat dental treatment was given to around 210 children from weaker sections of
society.
Free Uniform
Students of Govt High School Sector 40, Chandigarh were provided uniforms free of
cost for their day today use.
Independence Day
As an annual event, Rotary Club of Chandigarh celebrated Independence Day at Govt
High School, Bapu Dham Colony. Besides providing refreshments to the students, the
following contributions were also made :
A. Saboo Swaran Scholarhsip of Rs.3000/- to the topper of Class Xth.
B. Scholarships to toppers of Class Ist to Class Xth.
C. Shoes to Students of the school.
D. Rs.14000/- in cash to YTTS on account of books for poor students.
Rotary Vocational Training Centre
As an annual feature, Rotary Club of Chandigarh imparted vocational training to
around 137 students in the fields of Computer, Tailoring, Embroidery, Beautician,
Typing & Shorthand so that they can have better means of livelihood as also make
further advancement in life. Besides this, six citizens from different fields of
their profession, were awarded vocational awards during the year.
Contribution to Rotary Foundation
With concerted efforts during the year, financial contribution to the tune of US$18431
was collected from different resources to cater for different requirements of Rotary
Club in the coming times. Matching Grants from Rotary Foundation
The following were covered under Rotary Foundation during the year 2006-07 :
A. Eight Heart Surgeries were carried out under this head. It included children
from Pakistan as well.
B. Dental Chairs – 10 Dental Chairs installed to Dr H S Judge Institute of Dental
Science, Punjab University Chandigarh during the year 2006-07.

46 Surgeries completed during the year under Heartline Project (Boys 28, Girls 18).
Completed the 200th heart surgery during the year. 7 pacemakers donated to poor
patients out of 10 received from Heartbeat International. Cash donation of Rs.1,07,815/-
made during the year from the sun shine collection. Club's candidate Dr. Kulpreet
Dhillon went as a GSE Team member to Italy. The Club contributed more than 39,500.00
US dollars towards the Rotary Foundation this year. We revived and restarted Interact
Club at Govt. Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, Chandigarh. Total Interact Club’s

of the Club approved by The Rotary Foundation as the Matching Grant Project with
Rotary Club of Coral Gables. Twin Club agreement signed with the Rotary Club of
Coral Gables. More than 150 students trained in Computer, Tailoring, Embroidery,
Beautician, Type & Shorthand courses at the Rotary Vocational Training Centre.
