Some Landmark Achievements of the Rotary Club of
Chandigarh, during 2005-06:
February 24: MoU signed with the Municipal
Corporation of Chandigarh for upkeep and beautification of the cremation ground.
February 21: A 7-months old child gets a gift
of life from the Club under its Rotary Heartline Project. The first case of
child of less than one year age, gets operated in Fortis Hospital.
Organised a fund-raising event on 8th
February 2006, in support of its Rotary Heartline Project. Till February 2006,
130 surgeries have been performed so far. This had been a major PR exercise that
generated public awareness and support for the project.
Twenty-three (23) children in all were operated for congenital cardiac disease
during the year, including four from Pakistan and one from Afghanistan, in
PGIMER and Fortis Hospital. Total 136 children have been operated since the
start of the project in 1999, till 30th June 2006.
Rotary
Club signs Twin Club Agreement with Rotary Gold Coast Lake Success, New York,
USA. The club intends to have some joint projects.
Club
takes care of 12 Anganwadis and provides warm uniforms and other learning aids
and gifts to the children in December 2005
Blood
Donation camp organised in collaboration with Darshan Darvesh Foundation of Rtn.
PE Manmohan Singh Kohli's family on 9th December.
GSE Team
from Arkansas, USA hosted by the Club in Dec 2005
Free
computer literacy classes for the Rotarians organised in collaboration with the
DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh.
Doctors
and volunteers from the Club were part of the Medicare Project of District 3080
in January 2006. The team led by Past Rotary International President R.K.
Saboo, conducted medical procedures in one of the poorest districts in the
country, Kalahandi, Orissa.
30th
January 2006: Rotary Spouse Day celebrated to honour the spouses for their
support to the Rotarians.
Blind
student of BA Final in Government College for Men, gets his full tuition fee for
his studies.
A Poor
couple (husband needed regular supply of medicines after kidney transplant, from
kidney given to him by his wife), gets financial support and employment.
Tents
and blankets flown to Kashmir for earthquake victims on October 2005.
Another
12-year old child from Pakistan, Master Shoaib, operated successfully. Oct 2005
Diwali
celebrated with senior citizens.
An
interactive session with the children held on 29th August
Independence Day celebrated with school children in Bapu Dham colony.
The Club is running a Rotary Vocational Training Centre in its own building
catering to nearly 350 students every month in various disciplines. There
is URGENT need for a Laptop, an LCD projector, Video Camera, and a VCR, for
providing audiovisual training support to the students, as well as to document
its various projects and use it as a communication tool for RCC and other
volunteers in the community. We shall welcome your generous support ... in
